Singing with Confidence: SWAN Students Open the Lancaster Stormers Game

For many of our SWAN students, performing at a Lancaster Stormers game is an experience they never forget.

Standing on the field before the start of the game, singing the National Anthem, and seeing themselves on the big screen can feel a little intimidating. But when the moment arrives, our students rise to the occasion.

This summer, students proudly opened the game by singing God Bless America and the National Anthem while also using American Sign Language (ASL).

Learning ASL has become one of the parts of these performances our students especially enjoy. They are eager to learn the signs and discover new ways to communicate with others, even without words.

Performances like this give students an opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, trust their preparation, and discover what they are capable of. And the experience often stays with them. Students frequently remember singing at the Stormers game and seeing themselves on the big screen as one of the highlights of their time at SWAN.

This performance was a fitting way to close an incredible summer of music, growth, and new experiences.

They sang with confidence.

They signed with purpose.

And they reminded us once again that music can bring people together even when no words are spoken.

At SWAN, every opportunity to perform is about more than the song. It’s an opportunity for students to build confidence, discover new ways to communicate, and realize that they are capable of doing things that once felt intimidating.
