More Than Music Lessons: An Exciting Fall for SWAN’s Rising Stars
From weekly lessons to community stages, SWAN students are building confidence, discovering new talents, and sharing their gifts with others.
Since returning at the end of September, our Rising Stars students have been busy! We’ve welcomed familiar faces and new students, with some exploring new instruments and others continuing to develop their musical skills.
And the learning hasn’t stopped in the classroom!
Music, Performances, and New Experiences
SWAN student Kaydee and her string teacher, Kerry, participated in a masterclass with jazz violinist Christian Howes alongside high school musicians from Music For Everyone. They later performed together at the Ware Center before a screening of Redemption Time, a film featuring two formerly incarcerated artists who reclaimed their lives through art.
Thanks to the generosity of American Music Theatre, 24 SWAN students and family members also enjoyed a special performance by the Vitamin String Quartet.
Our Rising Stars have been sharing their own musical talents, too, performing at both the Gifts That Give Hope Fair and the FaithfulGive Celebration.
Following the FaithfulGive performance, one student excitedly shared how several people approached the group to thank them for performing. The student especially enjoyed those conversations, meeting other children, participating in activities, and learning about the other organizations represented.
What a beautiful reminder that these experiences are about so much more than music!
Our students aren’t simply performing for an audience. They’re connecting with their community, discovering the joy of sharing their gifts, and learning that they have something valuable to offer others.
Helping Every Child Grow
Back in the classroom, our students continue to learn and grow through music, mentorship, social-emotional learning, and Bible classes. We’re also providing private lessons during the school day for students unable to attend our after-school program.
For children impacted by parental incarceration, consistent encouragement, caring relationships, and opportunities to succeed can make a lasting difference.
At SWAN, every lesson, performance, and new experience is another opportunity to help a child heal, learn, succeed, and dream.
We’re grateful to the teachers, volunteers, donors, and community partners who make it all possible.
