On the evening of November 12, 2013 our Austin SWAN students served their community in a big way. Twelve of our children gave their first-ever performance for 50 homeless and street folks who were at Mission Possible Austin to have a hot meal. We had five children playing keyboard, three on guitar, one on hand drum, and three who were singing. They performed the Shaker song, “Simple Gifts” and did a great job. Then after handing out song sheets, they performed the song again with their audience singing along — some with tears in their eyes. Everyone had fun, but most importantly, our SWAN children gave of themselves and their newly acquired skills to the homeless and downtrodden in their neighborhood. What an amazing accomplishment for these young children!
