Eight-year-old, Tiaan and Emma and seven-year-old Karma sang a verse of “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” while using American Sign Language to conclude a Lancaster town hall meeting targeting Hidden Injustices. Their small but clear voices created a poignant end to the event organized by the Lancaster Justice Seekers Collective, which is trying to mobilize energy around social justice and produce lasting change. SWAN teacher, Allan Dutton, led the attendees to join in with them to finish the anthem. SWAN students, Ceevon and Jaymier, provided the piano and drum accompaniment. Jeff Hawkes, the town hall meeting organizer, said, “The participation of SWAN on Saturday morning was an absolute highlight of the event for me.” It was an honor for our students to participate in such a meaningful way!
