In 2022, more than a third of SWAN students were given private music lessons in addition to their group lessons. Of those, several had more than one private lesson a week. Multiple weekly lessons allow students to achieve goals faster and gain confidence in their musical abilities. As a result, they are more enthusiastic and likely to be team players and leaders in their ensembles.
We recently asked SWAN student Ceevon how much he likes his piano teacher on a scale of 1-10, and he said 100! Ceevon is a piano and composition student. He’s receiving two weekly private lessons and ensemble lessons with a drummer and guitarist. He excels in his studies as his natural talent is being developed.
School of Rock states, “Programs that combine private music lessons with group music lessons are able to offer students the benefits of each, leading to boosted cognitive development, increased student motivation, a faster rate of progress, and more opportunities to apply learned skills.”
We are grateful for the Level Up & Launch Grant in 2022 from United Way of Lancaster, which allowed us to provide more of our students with private and group lessons. We look forward to giving many students multiple weekly lessons in the coming year.
