Sometimes a field trip becomes more than an outing. It becomes an experience that sparks wonder, imagination, and memories that students carry with them.
During the final week of SWAN’s Rising Stars Summer Music Camp, our students, families, and staff had the opportunity to experience Joshua at Sight & Sound Theatres.
For many of our students, seeing a professional production of this scale was a special experience. From the music and costumes to the live animals, scenery, and powerful storytelling, the story of Joshua came to life all around them.
And our students noticed everything.
“I loved all the real animals! My favorite was the alpaca and the pig. They were funny.”
But perhaps one of our favorite reactions came from a student who watched the performers and wondered:
“I wonder what it would be like to be one of the kids in the show?”
That question captures something we hope to nurture at SWAN: the freedom to imagine what might be possible.
Throughout camp, students were encouraged to discover their gifts through music, art, and performance. At Sight & Sound, they had the opportunity to see professionals using their own gifts to tell a story, and perhaps imagine themselves doing something similar someday.
The experience also connected beautifully with the faith-centered part of our summer. Throughout camp, students participated in Bible classes and learned about God’s character, His faithfulness, and what it means to trust Him. Seeing a biblical story brought to life on stage gave students another opportunity to engage with those lessons in a memorable way.
Most importantly, it was an experience we were able to share together. Students, families, and staff experienced the story side by side, creating memories that extend beyond the classroom and rehearsal room.
We are especially grateful to Sight & Sound Theatres for generously donating the tickets that made this experience possible. Their generosity gave our students and families the opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of professional theatre together and experience a story of courage, faith, and trust in a whole new way.
Sometimes, the most meaningful opportunities are the ones that make a child stop and think:
“Could I do that someday?”
At SWAN, we want our students to know that it is okay to dream and that their possibilities are bigger than they may imagine.
