The School District of Lancaster provided vital mental health support for 30 students who attended SWAN4kids Camp.
Caring music teachers and mental health professionals (supported by SDOL) teamed up to make this 5-week full-day camp a time for children affected by trauma to heal, learn, succeed, and dream again. But it took their students’ effort, focus, and dedicated teamwork to achieve those goals, and they did so and more! Each child faithfully attended 5-weeks of classes from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. They attended daily one-on-one and group music lessons, art, movement, and social-emotional learning classes. They also took advantage of meeting one-on-one with mental health counselors. In that environment, they could get needed personal assistance, focus and learn an entire musical program, share the joy of music with others, and now take the confidence gained by performing into their school classrooms.
The performers impacted their community by sharing the beauty of their music and smiles with the residents of Evergreen Retirement Community, Lancaster’s Music Friday, The Clipper Stadium, and SWAN’s Summer Celebration. Please take a moment to watch their camp highlight video; we’re sure it will make you smile!
