Music, Connection, and Confidence at Brethren Village

There are moments when the impact of our students’ growth is felt not just in the classroom, but throughout the community. This was one of those moments.

Our Rising Stars had the joy of performing for the residents at Brethren Village, and what they shared was so much more than music. From the very beginning, students stepped forward with confidence, introducing themselves, speaking clearly, and proudly sharing the instruments they are learning through SWAN.

Their performance included a collection of songs that filled the room with warmth and joy, but one of the most meaningful highlights came through rhythm. Students led interactive drumming activities, inviting residents to join in using their hands. Together, they experienced the simple yet powerful connection that comes from making music side by side. It was a beautiful reminder of how therapeutic and unifying rhythm can be.

As the program came to a close, students moved through the auditorium singing “Make New Friends,” greeting each resident with smiles and genuine connection. They then gathered to talk one-on-one, building bridges across generations in a way that felt natural and heartfelt.

What made the evening especially powerful was the quiet leadership that emerged. With a few students unable to attend due to illness, others stepped forward, taking initiative, guiding their peers, and ensuring the performance continued seamlessly. It was a clear reflection of growth not only in skill, but in character and confidence.

We are incredibly proud of our Rising Stars. Their willingness to step forward, serve others, and share joy through music left a lasting impression, one that was evident in the smiles throughout the room.

This is what it looks like when students don’t just learn… they lead, connect, and inspire.
