On our first day of SWAN camp, we had a special visit from Grammy award-winning Terrance Simien via Zoom. The children enjoyed learning about the history and style of Zydeco music, a blend of rhythm and blues, which originated in southwest Louisiana among French Creole speakers. Mr. Simien performed the song “Gonna Take You There” from Disney’s The Princess and The Frog, in which he was a featured musician. He also shared with our students the exciting news that they’d be joining him and The Zydeco Experience Band on stage at Long’s Park on August 14th. The children continue to talk about Mr. Simien’s visit and are eager to perform with him.
