A Special Visit from Eleanor Isaacson: A Story of Courage, Faith, and Hope

Our Rising Stars students had the incredible honor of welcoming a very special guest, Eleanor Isaacson, into their classrooms.

Mrs. Isaacson began her visit by spending time with students during their classes. Our children warmly welcomed her, eagerly sharing what they have been learning and proudly demonstrating their growth. It was a beautiful picture of encouragement across generations, young students offering their joy and progress, and a gracious guest taking genuine interest in each one.

At the end of the evening, Mrs. Isaacson gathered with the students to share her powerful story.

A Childhood Marked by Hardship

Born in America, Mrs. Isaacson’s early life took a dramatic and painful turn when she was abandoned by her mother in Germany. As a child, she endured the harsh realities of life under the Nazi regime. She described her German teachers as strict and unkind.

“If you cried when they used the rod on your hands, they would hit you harder,” she told the students gently but honestly. Then she paused and added, “Children, you have wonderful, loving teachers here who care about you. You can be thankful for that.”

Her words gave our students a profound perspective on the safe, nurturing environment they experience each week at Rising Stars.

Protected in the Midst of War

Mrs. Isaacson shared that several times throughout her childhood, her life was spared during bombings in Germany. One story especially captured the room.

On Christmas Eve, as bombs began to fall, she and her aunt ran toward the shelter closest to their home. But as they approached, she felt a strong sense that they should go instead to a different shelter across town. Though it meant running farther in the chaos and fear, they followed that prompting.

That decision saved their lives.

Over 300 people in the closer shelter were killed that night.

“I didn’t know who God was then,” she explained. “We could not have Bibles or talk of those things. It was forbidden. But as a child, I recognized that Someone was watching over me.”

The room was completely still as students absorbed the weight of her testimony.

A Plan Greater Than Pain

At the age of thirteen, Mrs. Isaacson was finally able to return to America. There, she heard the Gospel and began to understand the God who had protected her through the darkest moments of her childhood.

“He had a plan for my life,” she told the students. “Even in all the bad things, He was working for my good. Just like He has a plan for your lives.”

Through her faith, she was also able to extend forgiveness in a deeply personal way.

“Because of God’s forgiveness, I was able to forgive my mother and be reunited with her.”

Her story was not only one of survival, but of redemption, of pain transformed by faith and forgiveness.

Riveted Hearts and Thoughtful Questions

Our students were completely captivated. They listened intently and asked thoughtful, heartfelt questions. It was clear that her story resonated deeply, not only as history, but as a testimony of courage, perseverance, and the faithfulness of God.

Moments like this remind us why Rising Stars exists. Our students are learning music, yes, but they are also learning resilience, gratitude, faith, and hope from the lives of those who have walked difficult roads before them.

We are so grateful to Mrs. Isaacson for sharing her story and reminding our students that even in life’s hardest chapters, they are seen, known, and held by a God who has a plan for their future.
