This past weekend, our students had two beautiful opportunities to share their music, lift spirits, and connect with the Lancaster community in meaningful ways.
Saturday: Sharing Hope at the Community Thanksgiving Meal
On Saturday, our Rising Stars were invited to perform at the Free Community Thanksgiving Day Meal held at the Crispus Attucks Community Center. This annual gathering in honor of Kendell Cook raises awareness for victims of gun violence, a solemn and important reminder made visible by the rows of T-shirts honoring those lost, lining both the indoor and outdoor spaces.
Into that atmosphere of remembrance, our students brought light.
With joyful singing, steady rhythms, and smiles that never faded, they filled the room with energy and hope. Their music had people tapping their feet, clapping along, and even dancing in their seats. A few children from the community couldn’t resist the fun and were invited to join in the drumming, turning the performance into a moment of shared celebration.
Afterward, students and their families enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving meal together, connecting with neighbors and experiencing the warmth of a community united in compassion.
Sunday: A Heartfelt Thank-You at Redeemer Lutheran Church
On Sunday, the students continued their weekend of giving by sharing music with the congregation of Redeemer Lutheran Church. For several years, Redeemer has supported our students with prayer, encouragement, and generosity. This performance was a chance to give something back.
The congregation welcomed the students and their families with open arms. Their voices and rhythms filled the sanctuary, offering a heartfelt expression of gratitude for the church’s ongoing support. It was a meaningful moment of connection, one that beautifully reflected the heart of SWAN’s mission: to bring healing, hope, and joy through music.
