It was a joyful and meaningful evening at Rising Stars as we welcomed members of the Rotary Club of Lancaster to celebrate our students’ service to the Lancaster community.

During our weekly program, 12 Rotarians joined us for a special “capping” ceremony. Each student was individually presented with a cozy ski cap embroidered with the SWAN logo, a gift given in honor of their community service. One by one, Rotarians gently placed the caps on the heads of our students, creating a moment that felt both personal and significant. There were smiles, laughter, and a sense that something truly meaningful was happening.

Our Rotary liaison, Chip Kirchner, spoke to the students about the importance of serving others and how their voices have already made an impact in Lancaster. In December, our Rising Stars students stood outside Lancaster Central Market alongside the Salvation Army Red Kettle, singing for the community during the Christmas season. Their music brought warmth and encouragement to shoppers and passersby, embodying the spirit of generosity and hope.

The capping ceremony was not just about hats; it was about recognition. It was about reminding our students that their contributions matter.

After the presentation, the students performed two of their songs for the Rotary members. Their confidence and joy filled the room as they shared the very gifts that make Rising Stars so special. The music created a beautiful bridge between generations, young people serving and seasoned community leaders affirming them.

The evening continued with a sweet time of fellowship. Each child escorted a different Rotarian into the music room for a cookie reception. It was heartwarming to watch the conversations unfold. Students shared about their instruments, their favorite parts of Rising Stars, and why they love coming each week. Rotarians listened, encouraged, and celebrated the growth they witnessed.

The partnership between SWAN and Rotary is a blessing. Together, we are building not only musicians, but young leaders who understand the value of serving their community.

And the caps? They were a huge hit! Students proudly wore them for the rest of the evening, eager to show their parents and guardians at pickup. What a beautiful picture of children standing a little taller, feeling seen, valued, and celebrated.

It was truly a special time together with our partners, and a reminder that when a community invests in its children, everyone benefits.
