On Monday night two of our students performed “Breakaway” by Kelly Clarkson for a local women’s shelter. The girls admitted to being nervous and excited about performing for the first time. The song, aptly chosen by one of their teachers, held meaning for the girls and their audience. Singing, “I’ll make a wish, take a chance, make a change, and breakaway,” is exactly what the girls and the women in the shelter are doing. Our students are making positive strides in life as they attend lessons faithfully and step out of their comfort zone to perform for others. The women at the shelter are receiving counseling and have stepped out of dangerously abusive situations to make a positive change for themselves and their children.
After the performance, while breathing a sigh of relief, both girls were all smiles and happy to have succeeded. We are proud of them for sharing their talent and encouraging the hearts of the women seeking refuge in the shelter. Hearing the sweet voices singing about breaking away was truly a precious moment for everyone in the room.
A special thanks to our supporters who make moments like these possible.
